What is aromatherapy?

Have you ever walked into a room and smelled something that reminded you of home, a fond memory, or helped you to relax? Was the aroma of baking cookies, coffee, a particular flower, or someone’s perfume? Whatever it was, I’m sure you had specific feelings that arose due to this brief  dance your olfactory nerves just had.

Did you know that there is an alternative therapy that uses specific scents or aromas called aromatherapy?  Aromatherapy is a healing art which roots lying in antiquity. It traces back more than 6000 years, since ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Persians, Romans and probably Chinese used to burn scented flowers and herbs and enjoy aromatic bath, massage and skin care for curative and cosmetic purposes. Essential oils are used such as lavender, peppemint, sage or bergomot to increase health. Essential oils is the “pure essence” of the plant that has many healing benefits.

I am very intrigued with this area of healing because I have felt it work… I love having massages when aromatherapy such as lavender and vanilla is used in conjunction with the massage. I feel more relaxed and I feel as if I have a better response with this added therapy.

What do you think? When I learn more, I’ll definitely let you know. I’m reading and hoping to attend some amazing classes! Imagine how my reiki and energy healing sessions will feel with added aromas for your spirit and soul….
